Making the UMW Web Site Easier to Use

Based on input we’ve received about difficulties in adjusting to the new site, we have made the following enhancements:

Resources Page Icon Toolbar is Back!

The toolbar of icons on the “Resources for Students, Faculty, and Staff” page is back. It is still in the Helpful Links, but enough people let us know they missed it in this location, so, it’s now restored. You can see it at:

http://umw.edu/resources

Directory is Back!

The People Search directory is also back in its old location. You can get to it from the icon toolbar bar in the Helpful Links OR in the icon toolbar now on the Resources page. See it at:

http://umw.edu/directory

Two New Icons on Toolbar

In both icon toolbar locations, we have added icons on the right, linking you to the Directory and to Forms and Documents in the Document Repository.

Helpful Links Icon Toolbar

The Document Repository is a new feature where you can search for all UMW forms in a single place without having to go to department sites to find them. This should help with any confusion during this interim period when departments are working on fixing their links to these forms as part of the website migration. If there is a form you cannot find, please let us know and we’ll contact the appropriate person, or see if we can find it for you.

Searching for Forms and Documents

The Document Repository has its own dedicated search engine (shown below):

Search options for documents.

Forms have been named and categorized by the form authors to aid in search. Please know that the search for this is an additive search. That means that the more selections you make, the narrower your search results. If you want to get a good selection of forms, use the broadest search term (for instance “Summer” will get you more forms than “Summer Registration.”) If you want to get a category of forms, or a form within a given category, use the drop-down menus. Read here for more about the Document Repository and how it works.

We are listening to the suggestions that come in and making changes every day to try to support our community in adjusting to the new site. If you have any questions or comments for the Web team, please feel free to contact us.
