New to the University

As new members of the UMW family, the IT staff would like to say “Welcome!”  We hope that you enjoy your tenure here.  We’ve put together these pages to help you understand what resources you’ll have available to you as a UMW Faculty, Staff, or Student.

Support Information

Self Help:

The IT Department maintains a Technology Information page providing self-help documentation.

IT Help Desk:

Residential network: is provided by Apogee. For questions on connecting to the Internet or TV issues – contact Apogee at 540-654-2255 (option 1) or 877-478-8808.  This network is available to students with a housing contract.

UMW Network: covers academic and administrative buildings and requires authentication through Clean Access and current virus protection. For more information on connecting to the UMW Wireless Network, visit: http://technology.umw.edu/connecting/

Learning Management System

Beginning fall 2011, UMW will use a new learning management system (LMS) called Canvas.  Canvas is an open LMS created by Instructure and that replaces Blackboard in the UMW environment.
