UMW is leveraging two applications to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to a variety of applications. We leverage Microsoft Authenticator and Cisco Duo.
Microsoft Authenticator
We employ Microsoft Authenticator to help secure our Microsoft 365 environment. This includes email, OneDrive, SharePoint, and other Microsoft web applications. We are also transitioning Single Sign-On systems from the older CAS system to the newer Entra ID system. Any system leveraging Entra ID for Single Sign-On will also be protected by MFA with Microsoft Authenticator. UMW is transitioning systems that use Duo as the second factor to use Microsoft Authenticator instead. We are doing this to unify on a single multi-factor authentication platform and leverage existing licensing included in the University’s Microsoft agreement.
Cisco Duo
Until the migration from Duo to Authenticator is complete, we continue using Duo as part of authentication for systems like VPN connections. For more information on Duo, click here.
