HOURS: Up to 30 Hours Per Week
WAGE: $12.00/hr. to start.  Pay increases possible based on performance.

This posting is for Summer employment.  Ideally the student employee might continue working as an IT Help Desk Student Associate into the next academic semester and beyond.

The IT Help Desk provides technical support to the entire university community through phone, online and walk up services under the guidance of full time professional staff members.  Help Desk Student Associates have the opportunity to learn and grow various skill sets including customer service, technical support, and working in a professional environment.

Help Desk Student Associates serve as a primary resource to answer technology questions and concerns at the University. We expect our Student Associates to be customer-focused and willing to help solve a caller’s issue quickly and professionally.  The ability to communicate, including listening and asking questions, is the most important aspect of this position.  Technical skills are a plus but not required.  ITSS staff will train Student Associates in technical areas if they possess good customer service and communication skills.

ITSS staff works with our Student Associates to maintain the proper balance between academic responsibilities and the responsibilities of the position. Student Associates providing excellent service to our customers have the opportunity to earn pay increases.


  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to listen, ask questions, and solve problems
  • Some familiarity with UMW systems, email and other resources
  • Willingness to learn and put new knowledge into practice
  • Possess basic computer software knowledge (PC and MAC)
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Good academic standing of at least a 2.5 GPA
