Phasing Out The Old Slideshows

When we initially launched the new UMW website, we were using a plugin called Easy Page Slideshow (EPS) to allow users to place photo slideshows on their sites. However, as we’ve continued to add new content to the site, and kept up with updates to the software, we’ve found that the EPS plugin is causing quite a few problems on the site. As a result, we are working on phasing it out so we can eventually remove it from the site entirely.

Before we do so, though, we will need all content managers to make sure they are no longer using that plugin to create their slideshows. We have already deactivated the EPS plugin on many sites throughout the system, but we still have quite a few more to go.

If the plugin is still active on your site, you will see a box just below the main editor that looks similar to one of the following screen shots while you’re editing a page or creating a new one.

Unfortunately, we can’t simply remove this plugin without first getting everyone to stop using it. If we remove the plugin while it is still being used, any page that’s using the EPS plugin will stop working altogether.

Therefore, if you see a box similar to the ones shown above, please check your site to see if you are using any slideshows (usually, these slideshows are only being used on the home pages of most sites, but there are a handful that are using slideshows on inner pages). If you don’t see any slideshows on your site, please send us an email with the address of your website letting us know that you’re not using the Easy Page Slideshow plugin, and we’ll deactivate it on your site. If you are using slideshows on your site, please contact us to set up a training session showing you how to remove the old slideshow and replace it with a new slideshow.

We have quite a few alternative methods you can use to create and use slideshows on your site, and we would be happy to help you implement one of those in place of your existing slideshow.
