Technology Downtime Notice for 7/13-7/15

Systems and Applications Outage: Information Technologies will be performing maintenance this weekend that will affect a number of production systems. The maintenance will begin Saturday, July 14 at 7:00AM, and will be completed by approximately 7:00PM. James Scott, who comes to us from Germanna Community College, works as a desktop technician in the IT Support Services Department. Jim Rawlings has recently joined the EAS team, filling our long-vacant role as the Senior Oracle Database Administrator. Jeff Pugh, joining us most recently from George Mason University, in the position of AV Systems Manager. David McCray joined the Network and Communications Services team just prior to the start of the new year. He supports network and voice cabling installations and troubleshooting among other responsibilities as a structured cabling technician. UMW Information Security Advisory – Twitter SPAM and more

UMW has seen an increase in SPAM and suspicious messages circulating the campus community.  These include Twitter messages used to propagate SPAM.  Please do not click on links in suspicious messages and verify any message that is suspicious with senders. There are a few specific information security incidents we want to make you aware of: Twitter: “Someone has posted really bad things about you” This message or variants of it, sent via Twitter, directs users to click on a link.  This will install a virus.  Users who are sending this message or have clicked on such a link should immediately take the following steps. Change your Twitter password. Check the list of approved applications in Twitter. (Log in to, click on the drop down menu in the top right, select Settings and then Apps.) Campus Wireless Upgrade Completion!

Information Technologies has successfully completed phase one of the wireless infrastructure upgrade.  Substantial features include both expanded coverage and responsive performance throughout academic and student services buildings. In addition to this upgrade, students will now be able to use their Apogee credentials in both academic and student services buildings without having to authenticate through a clean-access client.  This login change provides time efficient access for residential students to the internet. Maintenance on EagleNet/SharePoint and Wireless Service

Information Technologies will conduct maintenance tomorrow, Tuesday 5/15, on the following systems/applications: EagleNet/SharePoint will be down for maintenance starting at 7:00 am. This outage will last for approximately two hours. Department sites, MySites, and the UMW Reporting Center will be unavailable. Users will still be able to access Banner during this time.
