Finding Your IP Address

Windows 7

  1. To obtain your IPv4 address (IP Address), first click on the Start Menu Button on the bottom right side of your screen. Then click on Control Panel.
  2. When the Control Panel Window comes up click on Network  and Sharing Center.

    (If you do not see the Network and  Sharing Center button you may need to change your View By mode. You can do that by clicking the arrow next to the View By: text and selecting Category.)
  3. Now you want to click the link next to the Connections: text. In our case it was a Local Area Connection. In other cases it may be a wireless network connection.
  4. The status window that comes up show information about the connection that you selected. To find the IPv4 Address (IP Address) you will want to click on the Details button.
  5. Your IP Address will be the one next to the IPv4 Address text.

Alternative Method to Obtain IP Address – Windows 7 Command Line:

  1. Another method to obtain your IPv4 address (IP Address) is by using the Command Prompt. To do this you first need to click the Start Menu Button on the bottom right side of your screen. Then click All Programs.
  2. Next, you will want to click on the Accessories folder under All Programs.
  3. Under the Accessories folder, click on the program called Command Prompt.
  4. When the Command Prompt window comes up type in ipconfig then hit enter.
  5. Your IP Address will be the one next to the IPv4 Address text.
