Student Telephones

The University’s residence-halls include convenience phones on each floor.  These phones allow on-campus calling, and long-distance calling using prepaid phone cards or calling cards.  If you choose to use a phone card, be sure to read the “fine print” for hidden charges when you select a vendor.  Although collect calling is available through the local telephone company, it is at a premium price, and most students use it only in emergency circumstances.

  • Toll-free calls are made by dialing 9 first to access an outside line, then 1 and the 10-digit toll-free number.
  • Pre-paid phone-card or calling-card calls are made by dialing 9 first to access an outside line, then 1 and the 10-digit number associated with the card.
  • On-campus calls can be made by dialing only the last 4 digits of the number.
  • Local calls outside the University system are made by dialing 9 first to access an outside line, then the 7-digit local number.
