Like it or not, viruses and worms are here to stay, and appear to be taking more and more energy to combat. At UMW, we have done a tremendous job in preventing viruses from getting onto the Network, however, part of that effort has been to make anti-virus software available to all faculty and staff.
The University provides, and supports, Symantec Endpoint Protection for University owned Windows and Mac OSX computers. Instructions for running this software on both a Windows and Mac OSX system are provided in this section.
If you do not have anti-virus installed on your machine, please contact the UMW IT Help Desk at HelpDesk@umw.edu or (540) 654-2255. Note that at present, we do not provide licenses for home computers–only for University-owned computers on campus. There are a number of good virus applications that are free that you may take advantage of.
