PST refers to the format and extension (.pst) assigned to a Personal Storage Table, also referred to as a Personal Folder File. The PST format is useful for storing data that is downloaded from Outlook and other Microsoft applications. Noted below are instructions for backing up Outlook contacts to a PST file.
- Select File, then click on Import and Export.

- Within the Import and Export Wizard window, click on Export to a file, then click Next.

- Within the Export to a file window, click Personal Folder File, then click Next.

- Within the Export Personal Folders window, click Contacts, then click Next.

- Note: If this is the first time you have saved data to a Personal Folders File, the window shown below will display. Enter the path and file name where the Personal Folders File will be created. Additionally, if desired, you may enter a password to protect your Personal Folders File. If a password is entered, you will be prompted to enter the password whenever you want to export data to, or import data from, the Personal Folders File.

- Indicate the location where you want to save the backup. Click the option to indicate the desired action regarding duplicate items, then click Finish.

The Contacts data will be copied into the designated Personal Folders File.
