A header or footer is text that prints at the top (header) or bottom (footer) of every page or only on designated pages. Headers typically contain page numbers, but may also include other information, like the title of the document, the author’s name, or the chapter number.
To Insert a Header or Footer:
- Go to the Insert Tab.
- Select Header (or Footer) from the Header or Footer Group.

- Choose the style desired. (The body of your text will be dim, and the header / footer will be active.)

- Using the Header and Footer toolbar, make the changes desired.
- Options that you have include the following:
To insert Click Page numbers Insert Page Number. The current date Insert Date and Time The current time Insert Time and Time Common header or footer items, such as running total page numbers (Page 1 of 10), the file name, or the author’s name Go to the Header and Footer Tools, choose the Insert Tab, and select Quick Parts Customized information Type the desired information (for example, your name, the title of the document, etc.). - Close the header / footer by clicking on the Close button at the end of the toolbar; you can also click back in your document..
