Set Line Spacing

Line spacing controls the amount of vertical space between lines of text. The default setting is single-spaced text. Word offers a number of different options:

  • Single – single spaces the block of text.
  • One and a Half – applies an extra half space between lines of text.
  • Double – adds an extra line between lines of text.
  • Exactly – sets spacing between lines at the value that you specify.
  • At least – sets the spacing to at least the value that you specify; Word increases the spacing if needed.
  • Multiple – sets spacing by the factor that you enter.

To change the line spacing:

  1. Select the block of text that you want to change.
  2. Go to the Home Tab.
  3. See the Paragraph Group.
  4. Click on the Line Spacing icon.
  5. Select the appropriate option(s) from the dialog box.
