Insert Symbols and Special Characters

Special characters that are not part of the standard character set may be inserted into your document. Some examples of these symbols / special characters include:

  • accented letters — é,
  • mathematical symbols — ±,
  • the copyright symbol — ©

To Insert a symbol or special character:

  1. Click where you want to insert the symbol.
  2. Choose the Insert Tab.
  3. Go to the Symbols Group.
     
  4. Click on Symbol.
  5. Choose the desired symbol.

Word Extras:

  1. If the desired symbol isn’t found, choose More Symbols.  Click on the Symbols tab if it is not already selected.
  2. In the Font box, click the font that you want.
  3. Double-click the symbol that you want to insert; you can also single-click the symbol, then click on Insert.
  4. Click Close when you are finished.
