Select and Edit Data

To efficiently manipulate a worksheet you will need to understand how to select a block of cells, a column or row, or the entire worksheet.

To select a contiguous block of cells:

  1. Place the mouse in first cell to be selected (in this example, cell B3).
  2. Click and drag to the last cell (cell D7).

To select a column or row:

  1. Click on the letter of the column or the number of the row.
  2. To select multiple columns/rows, drag across the range to select.

To select a noncontiguous block of cells:

  1. Click on the first cell.
  • Move to each cell or group of cells to be selected and hold the control key down while clicking the left mouse button.

To select the entire worksheet:

  1. Point to the blank square that is just above the first row indicator (1) and to the left of the first column indicator (A).
  2. Click the left mouse button.

To edit text, numbers or formulas:

  1. Double-click the cell containing the data.
  2. Highlight the data to edit.
  3. Type the corrected data into the cell.
  4. Press Enter.
