Freeze Panes

Freezing panes on a worksheet is useful when a spreadsheet is extremely large. This option will permit one or more rows and columns to stay visible while scrolling through a large spreadsheet. The most common actions for this function are:

To freeze a horizontal pane:

  1. Select the row directly beneath the section to remain visible.
  2. On the View tab, in the Window group, click Freeze Panes, and then click the option that you want.
  3. Select Freeze Panes.

To freeze a vertical pane:

  1. Select the column immediately to the right of the section to remain visible.
  2. On the View tab, in the Window group, click Freeze Panes, and then click the option that you want.
  3. Select Freeze Panes.

To freeze both a horizontal and vertical pane:

  1. Select the cell beneath and to the right of the section to remain visible.
  2. On the View tab, in the Window group, click Freeze Panes, and then click the option that you want.
  3. Select Freeze Panes.

To remove frozen panes:

  1. On the View tab, in the Window group, click Freeze Panes, and then click the option that you want.
  2. Select Unfreeze Panes.
