Using Outlook as your Email Client

Note:  There are multiple ways in which you can access your Live@EDU mailbox.  One method is to use web-based access by logging directly into the Microsoft Exchange Labs website using a browser, such as Internet Explorer, Entourage, or Firefox.  Another method is to use Microsoft Office Outlook directly from your computer.  Outlook will serve as the client software to make the connection to your Live@EDU mailbox without needing to use a web browser.

  1.  Access the Control Panel by clicking Start, then clicking Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel window, click the Mail icon.
  3. The Mail Setup window will display.  Click on the Show Profiles button.
  4. The Mail window will display.  Click on the Add button.
  5. The New Profile window will display.  Enter a name for the mail profile that you are creating, then click OK.  It is suggested that you provide a profile name that will indicate that this is a Live@EDU profile.
  6. The Add New E-mail Account window will display.  Enter your name, Live@EDU email address, and password, then click the Next button.
  7. An online search will begin for the Live@EDU server.   A popup window will display, asking if the website is allowed to configure server settings.  Click the box beside the option, “Don’t ask me about this website again”, then click the Allow button.
  8. After a successful connection is made, a Live@EDU logon window will display.  Enter your Live@EDU password and click OK to continue.
  9. After a successful connection is complete, the Add New-Email Account window will display. Click Finish to continue.
  10. The Mail window will redisplay.  Highlight the profile that you have just created.  At the prompt, “When starting Microsoft Office Outlook…”, click on the button, Always use this profile, then click OK.

You have now configured Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to work as your Live@EDU mail client.
