Clearing Your Cookies

A cookie, also known as an HTTP cookie, web cookie, or browser cookie, is used for an origin website to send information to a user’s browser and for the browser to return the information to the origin site. The  information can be used for authentication, identification of a user session, user’s preferences, shopping cart contents, or anything else that can be accomplished through storing text data on the user’s computer. Clearing it occasionally can make some websites – and your browser – run smoother.

Internet Explorer

  1. In the menu bar top left side of the browser, click on Tools.
  2. Select Internet options from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the tab labeled General, under Browsing history, click the button that reads Delete….
  4. Check the box labeled Cookies (and other boxes as appropriate) and then click the Delete button.

Firefox (PC)

  1. While holding down the Ctrl and Shift keys, push the Delete key.
  2. Put a check in the box next to Cookies.
  3. Put checks in other boxes as appropriate.
  4. Click Clear Now.

Google Chrome

  1. Click the wrench icon  on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Options (Preferences on Mac and Linux; Settings on a Chromebook).
  3. Click the Under the Hood tab.
  4. Click Content settings in the “Privacy” section.
  5. Click the Cookies tab in the Content Settings dialog that appears:
  6. Delete cookies

For Mac User’s Chrome

Go to Clear Browsing Data under the Chrome tab.
Check Empty the cache option.

From “Clear data from this period” menu, select the amount of data you want to delete.

Safari (Mac)

  1. Click on the heading Safari.
  2. Choose Reset Safari.
  3. Put a check in the box next to Delete Cookies.
  4. Check other items as appropriate.
  5. Click Reset.

Opera

Click on Files in the Menu Bar then select Preferences.
From Preferences click to select History and Cache.
To clear Typed in addresses and Visited addresses (history), click Clear.

To clear Disk cache, click Empty now.
Click OK.

Firefox (Mac)

  1. Click on the heading Tools, and choose Clear Recent History.
  2. Put a check in the box next to Cookies.
  3. Click Clear Now.
