Today, many UMW students received a fraudulent email in their UMW account with the title “WARNING! Upgrade Your Mailbox.”
The email asked students to upgrade their account by clicking a link and entering your email password . THIS EMAIL IS NOT FROM UMW. This is a “phishing” email. The goal of this email is to trick you into revealing your username and password. Once you give up your password, hackers take over your email account.
IT support never sends you an email like this, and we never ask for usernames and passwords.
If you ever question the authenticity of an email, please contact the IT Help Desk before you enter any information.
More importantly, if you DID respond to this email, change your student email password IMMEDIATELY.
