Accessing Your Live@EDU Account

Before accessing your UMW Live@EDU, you must be assigned a UMW network ID. To determine your UMW network ID, click here.

  1. Go to http://login.live.com/.
  2. In the field, Windows Live ID, enter your assigned network ID, followed by @mail.umw.edu (e.g. yournetid@mail.umw.edu).
  3. In the field, Password, enter your temporary password. The temporary password is constructed as follows:
    Uppercase first letter of your legal first name
    +
    Lowercase first letter of your legal last name
    +
    Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number*
    +
    2 digit designation of your birth month (e.g., April = 04)Example:
    First Name: Donald
    Last Name: Duck
    Last 4 Digits of SSN: 1234
    Birth Month: January (01)
    Password would be: Dd123401
    Note: If you have no Social Security number or birth date in our systems use the Uppercase first letter of your legal first name + Lowercase first letter of your legal last name + Last 4 digits of your Banner ID + 99 as your password. Your banner ID is printed on your EagleOne card (it’s also found next to your name in Banner).
  4. The window, Provide account information, will display.
  5. Within the section, Verify your information:

    In the field, Windows Live ID, enter your assigned network ID followed by @mail.umw.edu (e.g. yournetid@mail.umw.edu). In the field, Password, enter your temporary password as noted in the previous step.
  6. Select a question and secret answer.

    Click the down arrow beside the field, Question, to display the available security questions. Select one of the questions to serve as your security question; this will be used to authenticate access to your account in the event that you forget your Live@EDU password. In the field, Secret answer, enter your personal answer to the security question.
  7. Add an alternate e-mail address

    Within the field, Alternate e-mail address, it is suggested that you enter an alternate e-mail address if you have one. In the event that your password is forgotten, reset information will be sent to the alternate e-mail account. For verification purposes, you will be asked to retype the alternate e-mail address.
  8. Your information

    Complete the fields Country/Region, State, Zip code, and Birth year.In the event that your password is forgotten, this information will be used, along with your secret answer, to verify your identity and to permit your password to be reset.
  9. The Microsoft Office Web Access window will appear. You have several other options to respond to.
  10. Click I accept to agree to the Windows Live service agreement and Privacy Statement. To view the statements, click on the hypertext links provided.
  11. If you need to do so, optimize Outlook Web Access for a screen reader or high contrast settings. If you desire to utilize this feature, check the box Use the blind and low vision experience.

  12. The second section of the form prompts for the primary language that will be used by Outlook Web Access. The default is English (United States).
  13. The third section of the form prompts for the current time zone. Generally this will be set to Eastern Time (US & Canada).
  14. The final section of the form is an access acknowledgement and agreement regarding the rights of the organization’s domain administrator. To continue and accept the agreement, click OK .
  15. Your Microsoft Office Outlook mailbox will display.

  16. To exit the mailbox, click the Log Off button on the right side of the upper task bar.
