Note:  This needs to be changed to DHCP and for current system.

TIP: Before attempting a connection to the UMW Network make sure you have been given a Network User ID and password.

If you are on campus, you will need to assign your computer a specific location on the network in order to connect. To enable this, the Help Desk will assign you with an IP Address (a unique address for your computer) and a router number (a unique identifier for your building network’s connection to the University network). Once you are assigned these numbers, you need to configure your Network Preferences to connect. If you do not have this information, call the Help Desk at (540) 654-2255 before attempting a connection .

  1. Make sure you are in the Finder” and go to the apple Mac OS X logomenu, and select Location. In the fly-out menu, then select Network Preferences.

  2. This will open the Network Preferences panel. In this panel, make sure that the menu labeled Show is set to Built-in Ethernet the menu labelled Configure should be set to Manually.

  3. In the remainder of the Network Preferences panel, you will need to add your IP Address and other information, as shown below. When you are finished, click Apply Now. Then close the panel by clicking the red button in the upper left.
