The Information Technology department provides computing and communication services to the UMW campus community. Our mission is to provide the technical infrastructure, information resources, and services that advance the university’s strategic goals; enhance instructional technology, teaching and learning; promote effective and efficient work processes; and support information decision making and institutional reporting. The department is part of the Division of Administration and Finance.
Technology questions, problems and concerns
The primary contact for technology questions and concerns is the IT Help Desk. Located in the basement of GW Hall on the Fredericksburg campus, the Help Desk may be reached at 540/654-2255, or via e-mail at helpdesk@umw.edu.

Chief Information Officer
Justin Webb currently serves as the acting chief information officer. The Department of Information Technologies is responsible for implementation and support of technology throughout the university in direct support of our students, faculty and staff. Prior to this appointment, Justin has held the position of executive director for enterprise application services and previously served as the director for applications development. He has worked at the university since July 2008.
Before coming to UMW, Justin held various consulting and full-time positions with military/DOD contractors, European institutions, and domestic Fortune 500 companies. His experience includes time as a software developer, technical lead for business application development teams, and project manager for IT and software implementation projects.
Justin is an alumnus of Mary Washington College, a Certified Scrum Master/Agile Coach, a Project Management Professional (PMP), and is certified by Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) and the commonwealth to manage major projects on behalf of the university. He is a long-time resident of the Fredericksburg region, where he lives with his wife and four children.
